RENTON, Wash. - Major League Soccer and the Seattle Sounders FC announced Roger Levesque was selected as the MLS W.O.R.K.S. "Humanitarian of the Month" for May. The award recognizes Levesque's efforts to raise funds for the Ronald McDonald House, among several other charitable efforts.
Levesque participated in the Men in Kilts fundraiser, donning an authentic kilt alongside other Seattle celebrities to raise money for the Seattle Ronald McDonald House and its mission of supporting families with seriously ill children.
Fans voted for the "King of the Kilt" with a $25 vote, which sponsors one night of housing for a family. The organization raised $35,000 and the money will be used to provide 1,400 nights of sponsored housing and services for families of seriously ill or injured children. Levesque raised nearly $4,000 on his own, fourth-best among the 14 Seattle-area celebrities who participated.
The Seattle Ronald McDonald House is a home-away-from-home for more than 700 families each year while their children receive medical treatment. They also provide a van service for families staying in Anchorage, Alaska while their children receive medical care.
Levesque also participated in several other charitable efforts as he continually works with America SCORES Seattle, reading Shel Silverstein to children in April. He also helped raise awareness alongside the Emerald City Supports for a Sounders FC supporter who lost his battle with melanoma.
"The Sounders organization does a good job of getting into the community and doing what they can to help out," said Levesque. "The connection to Seattle is very important. I think it's great that MLS W.O.R.K.S. is stepping in and making a donation to the Ronald McDonald House."
MLS W.O.R.K.S. is Major League Soccer's community outreach initiative dedicated to addressing important social issues affecting young people and serves as a platform for both League and club philanthropic programs. MLS W.O.R.K.S. seeks to establish Major League Soccer as a leader for improving the lives of people through sport.
