Seattle Sounders FC has enjoyed measurable success on the pitch over the club’s last six years. As the seventh season begins, the organization is looking to change the way it is involved in Seattle and the surrounding region.

At the helm of the efforts is Roger Levesque, a former Sounders player and fan favorite.

“We are excited to announce the launch of a new community vision which will give us flexibility to better leverage our strengths in soccer and as an organization,” said Levesque.

As Director of Community Outreach, he’s looking to “ultimately have more of an impact” with the programs and partners that the Sounders work with moving forward.

In the offseason, Levesque worked and refined his plans with various stakeholders, including Sounders colleagues, supporters and community partners. Ultimately two ideas resonated more strongly than others: equality and equity.

“Our vision is built on the principles of equality and equity. To Sounders FC, equality means an opportunity to grow the global game. We view equity as a responsibility to do more for those that need it. Sounders FC chooses to invest in equity and to use soccer as a vehicle to remove barriers so all people have an opportunity to thrive.”

As a former player, Levesque knows the connection to Seattle runs deep for the both the team and staff members.

“The matchday chants still give me chills. They signify the strong relationship that the city and the team has shared. I feel fortunate to have been part of that for so long.”

To launch his plan for 2015, Levesque is unveiling the new strategy and vision at an upcoming Community Kickoff and Fundraiser on Thursday, March 19. The event will feature current players, coaches and staff members and include a silent auction with all proceeds benefitting the Sounders FC community efforts this year.

“The Community Kickoff and Fundraiser will be a great way to open lines of communication for the year ahead,” Levesque said. “I believe that progress is made when people across communities join forces to share knowledge, resources and responsibilities.”

According to Levesque, getting the greater Sounders community involved is key to seeing continued success.

“This year, more than ever, we plan to lean on all Sounders FC stakeholders to join our efforts. Whether that’s leveraging our business staff to provide mentorship opportunities, or providing our supporters with a chance to break a Guinness World Record for good, our 2015 community vision is absolutely a call to action.”

The Community Kickoff and Fundraiser will be held on Thursday, March 19. More information and tickets are available online now.
