On May 3, the Seattle Sounders took to social media, pledging support to their favorite local nonprofits and you listened. With more than 20 organizations represented, each player challenged fans to #GiveBIG themselves and Seattle Foundation's annual day of giving saw more than $21 million raised in just over 24 hours.
"This year Sounders FC’s involvement was truly a team effort – players and coaches galvanizing support for nonprofits, ownership raising the stakes with a financial commitment that amounted to a $10,000 donation split between JDRF Northwest and Urban ArtWorks, and passionate fans who no doubt contributed to GiveBIG’s record-setting results," said Roger Levesque, the Sounders' Director of Community Outreach. "It’s truly an honor to be part of a community that cares so much for one another."
"The generous spirit of our community prevailed and a large number of our nonprofit partners were able to achieve their fundraising goals, but certainly not all," said Tony Mestres, President and CEO of Seattle Foundation. The Sounders participated in this year's campaign as presenting partners and hosted the day's kickoff event in The NINETY.
