To commemorate the 50th anniversary of Sounders FC, the club is proud to announce the Eternal Sounders Circle of Legends, an exclusive ring of honor for the best to ever wear the shield.

Over the past five decades, a select few have distinguished themselves as the greatest players, coaches, and builders ever to give their Full 90. And they are deserving of the highest recognition a club can offer.

Born of Democracy in Sports, a collaborative process will identify and elect the chosen in the coming months and years. Only those individuals deemed worthy - by the faithful, by the Sounders community – will be elected and enshrined.

The process will give a voice to fans, alumni, club representatives, media, the Alliance Council, and more.

For 50 years, Sounders FC has lifted cups and our community along the way. Consistently raising trophies and the bar of excellence. But the foundation of Sounders is TEAM. It’s the bedrock on which individual success is possible.

In 1974, a group of soccer pioneers descended upon Puget Sound from 7 different countries - the first pro footballers to settle at the Water’s Edge. A band of overachievers that exceeded expectations right out of the gate. Playing to over 12,000 fans packed into Memorial Stadium at the base of the Space Needle for a rowdy summer of soccer.

They established the characteristics that have defined Sounders Soccer for five decades: GRIT, PERSEVERANCE, EXCELLENCE, COMMUNITY. Fostering a connection between the sport and the city that has been unshakeable and unbreakable for 50 years. A team that laid the foundation for every success, every moment, every trophy that has followed for Sounders FC.

And for that, on the 50th anniversary of their journey, which marked the beginning of ours, it’s only fitting that a team, the 1974 inaugural Sounders FC team, is the first inductee into the Eternal Sounders Circle of Legends.

Induction will take place June 15th prior to the 50th Anniversary match vs. Minnesota at Lumen Field at 7:30 p.m. PT. Pre-match festivities begin at 7:10 p.m. PT.

  • Sounders FC Alumni - Former Sounders FC players and coaches who were part of the organization and are still connected to it.
  • Sounders FC Staff - Current full-time soccer and business staff who have been with Sounders FC for multiple seasons.
  • Sounders FC Ownership - Representatives of Sounders FC's Ownership Group.
  • Alliance Council - Plays a critical role in choosing which nominees make it to the selection stage.
  • Alliance Members - All current Sounders FC Members hold an active vote as part of the overall process.
  • Seattle Media - Accredited media members take part in the overall process.
