Academy Snapshot: U-15s remain unbeaten to start the 2018-19 season

All three Sounders Academy sides returned to U.S. Soccer Development Academy league play over the weekend as they compiled a 2-2-2 record down in Northern California.

Sounders U-19 striker Alec Diaz continued his excellent form in the early stages of the 2018-19 season with a goal against Sacramento, which earned the young Sounders a point on the road. Despite controlling possession and dictating the tempo of the match, Seattle conceded the equalizer in the 78th minute.


After suffering their first loss of the season against Sacramento, the U-17s stormed back the next day with a resounding 3-0 win over the Earthquakes. Operating in the double-pivot, midfielder Chris Hegardt strung together an impressive performance as he bagged a goal and an assist. Ray Serrano, who lined up on the left wing, sustained his superb form with a goal in the 52nd minute, taking his season total to six goals and four assists from the first five matches. Fresh off his call-up to the U.S. U-16 National Team, center back Eric Kinzner got on the scoresheet with a thumping header off of Danny Leyva’s corner kick in the 71st minute.


The U-15s remain unbeaten in league play after earning a draw and a win on the road over the weekend. In the draw against Sacramento, Oscar Rincon scored the equalizer in the 49th minute for his fourth goal of the season. Facing off against a MLS side the next day, striker Austin Brummett registered his third multi-goal match of the campaign as he bagged a brace against the Earthquakes.

Cascadia Derby


All three Sounders Academy sides will face their first Cascadia clash this weekend in a series of matches against the Portland Timbers at Starfire Sports. For some of the members of the U-15 squad, it will be the first of a lifetime of matches against their bitter Cascadia rivals from down South.


Brummett Keeps Rolling


Although it’s a small sample size, U-15 forward Austin Brummett has built upon a strong debut campaign in Sounders Academy with a sterling start to his second year. Through four matches, the New Hampshire native has eight goals in league play.
