It’s been almost two years since the Seattle Sounders unveiled The Anniversary Kit, but the instantly iconic jersey is still receiving plenty of love.
ESPN.com released its selection of the top 25 kits of the 21st century on Monday, with The Anniversary Kit making the list alongside some of the biggest clubs on the planet like Liverpool, Barcelona, and Inter Milan, to name a few.
“The 2024-25 Sounders home shirt marked 50 years of club history and as such was inspired by the pinstripe home and away kits they wore during the 1983 NASL season with a color palette drawn from their kits of the mid-1970s. It might have been a mash-up of sorts but the overall design worked a treat, at least partially disproving the old fashion adage that ‘blue and green should never be seen’ together," said ESPN journalist Chris Wright. "Also, the Sounders' rather excellent old ‘Orca’ emblem was reinstated to the back of the neck, which was a superb retro touch.”
Sounders FC’s current slate of kits, which also includes the Salish Sea Kit and the Orca Kit, have garnered global recognition for their bold creative designs and cultural storytelling.
