The Seattle Sounders and playoff success have become synonymous over the last 17 years.
Since the team’s inaugural season in 2009, the team has built a vast history of strong postseason results, including, but not limited to, two MLS Cup titles (2016, ‘19) and four Western Conference Final wins (2016, ‘17, ‘19, ‘20).
Beginning on Oct. 27, the Rave Green will look to continue this strong run of form as the team kicks off the 2025 Audi MLS Cup Playoffs at Allianz Field against Minnesota United in Match 1 of the Round One, Best-of-3 series.
Here is a look back on the Sounders’ playoff accolades, by the numbers:

The Sounders are known for their strong veteran presence on the roster year-after-year. Sounders stalwarts Stefan Frei, Cristian Roldan and Jordan Morris all rank in the top ten for most playoff appearances and minutes in postseason competition. Frei has made 36 appearances, totaling 3,240 minutes, Roldan has 32 matches under his belt, coming out to 2,731 minutes, and Morris is currently at 24 appearances with 1,958 minutes.

It is no surprise the Sounders’ all-time leading goal scorer also has the most playoff goals among active players. In 24 postseason matches, Morris has tallied nine goals for the Rave Green. LAFC’s Denis Buoanga sits in second, one goal behind the Sounders forward.

Since joining MLS as an expansion side in 2009, the Sounders have qualified for the playoffs 16 times in 17 seasons – more than any club during that timeframe. The New York Red Bulls are second on the list with 15 postseason berths.

Brian Schmetzer has enjoyed of success in postseason play since taking over the helm as Head Coach in 2016. He currently ranks third in all-time playoff wins by an MLS head coach with 18, in addition to a strong winning percentage of .683.

Winning is in the Sounders’ ethos. The Sounders have won 25 postseason matches across 15 playoff campaigns. The Rave Green are currently hold the tied with the LA Galaxy for most playoff wins since 2009.

The Sounders have been lethal in the postseason when it comes to scoring goals. In the Sounders’ 15 postseason campaigns, the team has scored the second-most goals of any club with 65.

Arguably one of the greatest goalkeepers in league history, Frei has been instrumental in the club’s consistent playoff success. Since joining MLS in 2011 with Toronto FC, the seasoned goalkeeper has built a strong resume during postseason play totaling a whopping 115 saves in 36 playoff matches. He also ranks second in lowest goals-against average (0.92) and in most playoff wins by goalkeepers (20).
