PREVIOUS MEETING: The Sounders defeated the Galaxy 3-1 on Sept. 27 in Carson. Cristian Roldan notched a brace and Jordan Morris added another for Seattle. Sebastian Lletget scored a late consolation goal for the hosts.
GETTING BACK ON TRACK: Seattle has one win in its last five and will look to right the ship against an LA side fighting for its playoff life. Given how high a defensive line the Galaxy play and the pace of Seattle’s attack, Wednesday could be a great opportunity to get back in the win column.
STAT LEADERS: Raúl Ruidíaz and Nicolás Lodeiro lead the Sounders in goals and assists, respectively, and each is pushing toward the top in MLS. Ruidíaz’s 10 goals are tied for third in the league, while Lodeiro is in sole possession of third with nine helpers.
SMITH RETURNS: Defender Brad Smith returned to game action on Sunday against the Colorado Rapids after missing the previous three matches with an injury. The 2019 MLS Cup starter figures to play a vital role in Seattle’s hunt to defend its title.
NEW COACH: The Galaxy parted ways with Head Coach Guillermo Barros Schelotto on Oct. 29. Former longtime MLS Head Coach Dominic Kinnear has taken over as the interim manager.
NO CHICHA: Javier “Chicharito” Hernández has missed the last three Galaxy matches with a hamstring injury. Major League Soccer’s highest-paid player has just one goal in roughly 700 minutes for his new club.
PAVÓN ON FIRE: In Chicharito’s literal and figurative absence, it’s been business as usual for Cristian Pavón, the Argentine winger on loan from Boca Juniors. The 24-year-old Designated Player has 10 goals and seven assists on the season, including three goals in the last two matches in the Galaxy’s improbable quest for the MLS Cup Playoffs.
