SEATTLE, WASH. – Seattle Sounders FC 2 defender Giuliano Frano has been added to the Canadian U-23 Olympic squad ahead of the CONCACAF Men’s Olympic Qualifying Championship in preparation for the 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil. The call-up marks the first of Frano’s career.

Frano – a Toronto native – and the Canadian U-23 side are set to face the Olympic sides from the United States, Panama and Cuba in the Group Stage of the CONCACAF Men’s Olympic Qualifying Championship. Canada is facing the U.S. and Panama at Sporting Park in Kansas City on October 1 and October 3, respectively, before wrapping-up Group Stage play against Cuba at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Colorado on October 6.

Frano, 22, has made 25 appearances totaling 2,073 minutes for S2 in 2015, the third-most of any player on the team. He has two goals, both game-winners, in league play.

The defender has already joined Canada ahead of the upcoming Group Stage matches and will not be available for S2’s USL Western Conference Quarterfinal match against Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC on Friday, September 25.
