Italy’s Inter Milan is taking on Argentina’s River Plate at Lumen Field in Seattle on Wednesday, June 25, on Matchday 3 in Group E of the FIFA Club World Cup 2025™ group stage. Here is everything you need to know about the competition and their upcoming match:

FIFA CLUB WORLD CUP 2025: The FIFA Club World Cup is a global tournament that features 32 of the best clubs from around the world. This year’s edition will take place in North America, with Seattle serving as one of the 11 host cities. The final will be held on July 13 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.
CWC FORMAT: The 32 qualified teams from AFC, CAF, Concacaf, CONMEBOL, OFC and UEFA are separated into eight groups of four where the first and second place clubs from each group advance to the knockout rounds.

FIFA Club World Cup Hub
The biggest tournament in the history of global club soccer is just around the corner. This month, Sounders FC will compete in the the FIFA Club World Cup right here in Seattle. Placed in Group B, the Rave Green will face UEFA Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain, Spanish giants Atlético de Madrid, and reigning South American champions Botafogo at Lumen Field during the group stage.
ABOUT INTER MILAN: Inter is one of the most successful clubs in Italy and a perennial contender in Europe. Inter is a 20-time Scudetto winner as champion of Serie A, has nine Copa Italias, three UEFA Champions League titles and three UEFA Europa League titles. The Nerazzurri also fell to Sounders Group B opponent Paris Saint-Germain last month in the 2024/25 UEFA Champions League Final. Some of the best players in the world have suited up for Inter, including the likes of Ronaldo Fenômeno, Zlatan Ibrahimović, Samuel Eto’o and Wesley Sneijder.
HOW THEY QUALIFIED: Inter qualified for FIFA Club World Cup 2025 via the UEFA rankings pathway after being one of the most consistent performers in the UEFA Champions League over the past four years.
2024/25 SERIE A STANDINGS: Inter finished second in the Serie A table last year with 81 points (24-5-9), missing out on the title by one point to Napoli.
PLAYERS TO KNOW:
Lautaro Martínez: One of only a handful of players to score in both of his team’s opening two FIFA Club World Cup matches, the Argentine striker and 2022 FIFA World Cup winner is one of the best pure finishers in Europe. Martínez has 115 goals in his seven seasons in Milan. He was the 2023/24 Serie A Player of the Season and finished last year with 12 goals and three assists.
Alessandro Bastoni: The 26-year-old center back is the two-time reigning Serie A Defender of the Year after helping anchor an Inter back line that tied for second last season with just 35 goals conceded in 38 matches. Bastoni has 36 caps with the Italian national team, most recently starting in Italy’s 2-0 win over Moldova on June 9 in 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.

Sebastián Driussi: MLS fans will be familiar with Driussi, who joined River Plate in January after an impressive three-and-a-half-year stint with Austin FC where he totaled 45 goals and was second in the 2022 MLS MVP voting. Driussi has settled in well in his native Argentina, tallying three goals in league play and an additional three goals in just six Copa Libertadores matches. He also scored in River’s Matchday 1 win over Urawa.
Franco Mastantuono: Wednesday will be one of Mastantuono’s final matches with River Plate before he joins global giants Real Madrid for a fee worth over $50M when he turns 18 on Aug. 14. The teenage phenom is one of the most coveted prospects in the world, tallying four goals and six assists in 34 matches with River Plate since debuting in 2024. He also recently earned his first cap with the senior Argentina national team in a 1-0 win over Chile earlier this month in 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifying.
