Major League Soccer on Monday named two Seattle Sounders to the Week 22 Team of the Week, with Jordan Morris earning a starting spot in the starting lineup and Nicolás Lodeiro making the bench. Inclusion in the TOTW is a fitting recognition for both Morris and Lodeiro, who helped the Sounders snap a three-game winless skid with a gutsy comeback victory over the Colorado Rapids on Saturday.
Morris was a dominant force all evening as he constantly utilized his blistering pace to stretch the Rapids backline and attack space. Most of Seattle's best attacking sequences came through the Mercer Island native in the first half, culminating in his chipped finish just before the break to make it 1-1. In the second half, it was Morris who earned the penalty for the game-winning goal. He also finished tied with Lodeiro for most key passes in the match with three.
Lodeiro was instrumental in the Sounders' equalizing goal, as it was his quick thinking and pinpoint precision on the long ball to Jimmy Medranda that led to the scoring opportunity. When Morris earned the penalty in the second half, there was never a doubt that Lodeiro would dispatch it confidently. With the goal, the club captain extended his perfect record from the penalty spot to 17 goals from 17 attempts.
The Sounders return to action on Friday as they travel to California to take on Supporters' Shield leaders LAFC (8:15 p.m. PT; FS1, FOX Deportes, 93.3 KJR FM, El Rey 1360AM) at Banc of California Stadium.
