Following the team’s 1-0 win on the road against St. Louis CITY SC at Energizer Park on Saturday night, Seattle Sounders defender Kalani Kossa-Rienzi was named to the MLS Team of the Matchday for Matchday 3.
Kossa-Rienzi entered the match as an unexpected first-half substitute for Yeimar, coming on in the 23rd minute after the center back picked up a knock.
Two minutes into the second half, Kossa-Rienzi provided a moment of magic to secure three points for Seattle on the road.
Jesús Ferreira intercepted a pass deep in St. Louis' defensive third an quickly played a pass that found Kossa-Rienzi at the top of the box. The defender took one touch to settle the ball, and another to cut away from his marker before rolling a left-footed shot into the bottom corner.
In addition to his goal, Kossa-Rienzi posted three tackles, one interception, eight recoveries an won all four of his ground duels.
The Sounders return to action on Thursday, March 12 when they visit the Vancouver Whitecaps at BC Place in Concacaf Champions Cup (7:00 p.m. PT).
