MATCH RECAP: S2 earns a point in 1-1 draw with Saint Louis FC

Antonee Burke-Gilroy 8-29-18

TACOMA, WASH. – Sounders FC 2 (5-16-3, 18 points) on Wednesday played to a 1-1 draw with Saint Louis FC (10-7-9, 39 points) at Cheney Stadium in Tacoma. S2 is now unbeaten in its last three home games, and has earned 16 of its 18 points in front of the home crowd this season.

Antonee Burke-Gilroy netted his second goal of the season in the 37th minute off a feed from Nick Hinds for S2’s lone tally of the night. Hinds received a pass near the top of the area and found Burke-Gilroy around the penalty spot, and the Aussie calmly collected the ball and slotted it past Saint Louis goalkeeper Jake Fenlason.

Saint Louis FC forward Kyle Greig netted his team-leading 11th goal of the season in the 27th minute to get the vistors on the board first. Greig finished a corner-kick that found its way through several players in the area, and the striker finished with his left foot.

S2 saw appearances from six First Team players in Tony Alfaro, Jordy Delem, Bryan Meredith, Lamar Neagle, Alex Roldan and Henry Wingo. Seattle also played three Academy players in Khai Brisco, Leo Burney and Peter Kingston.

Sounders FC 2 returns to action on Sunday, September 2 against Orange Country SC at Cheney Stadium (1:30 p.m. PT / ESPN+). The match is the second of three home games in eight days, with the third fixture being played on Wednesday, September 5 against Tulsa Roughnecks FC (7:00 p.m. PT / ESPN+).
