MATCH RECAP: Sounders FC Defeats Archrival Portland Timbers 2-1 on Sunday Afternoon at Providence Park

PORTLAND, ORE. – Sounders FC (3-5-4, 13 points) won 2-1 over the Portland Timbers (2-6-4, 10 points) on Sunday afternoon at Providence Park. Cristian Roldan and Raúl Ruidíaz both scored for the Rave Green, as the visitors took three points against their longtime Cascadia rivals. Today’s contest marked the 120th all-time meeting between the Sounders and Timbers dating back to 1975, with the Rave Green now holding a 57-46-17 advantage in the series.

With the result, Seattle jumped into 10th place in the Western Conference, three points below the playoff line. Brian Schmetzer’s side continues its road swing on Wednesday, May 15 against Real Salt Lake at America First Field (6:30 p.m. PT / Apple TV, iHeartMedia Seattle, El Rey 1360 AM), before returning home on Saturday, May 18 to host Vancouver Whitecaps FC on the Emerald Queen Casino Pitch at Lumen Field (7:30 p.m. PT / Apple TV, iHeartMedia Seattle, El Rey 1360 AM).

  • Obed Vargas and Cristian Roldan were credited with their second and third assists of the season, respectively, on Ruidíaz’s goal.
  • Cristian Roldan now passes Fredy Montero and moves into sole possession of second in club history with 53 assists across all competitions.
  • After being cautioned in the second half, Nouhou is suspended for Wednesday’s match against RSL due to yellow card accumulation.
