MATCH RECAP: Two second-half stoppage time goals give Tacoma 2-0 win

Atencio 10-12-19

TACOMA, WASH. – Tacoma Defiance (7-19-6, 27 points) on Saturday earned its second consecutive victory with a 2-0 win over Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC (7-21-5, 26 points) at Cheney Stadium. The club has recorded two straight wins for the first time this season and is now undefeated in its last three contests. Danny Robles and Josh Atencio each scored a second-half stoppage time goal in Tacoma’s first shutout victory since the season opener on March 8 vs. Rio Grande Valley FC.

After a scoreless first 90-plus minutes, Tacoma buried two goals in two minutes to earn the full three points. Two minutes into second-half stoppage time, Robles put a corner kick right at the head of Atencio and the captain headed it home for his first goal of the season. The assist was the first of the season for Robles.

Just one minute later, Robles scored his second goal of the season to push the lead to 2-0. He won a ball just outside of the area and fired a shot with his left foot to beat the Colorado Springs goalkeeper. The 17-year-old is now tied for fourth on the club with his two goals this season.

Trey Muse made five stops for Tacoma to record his third shutout of the season. He has now allowed just two goals in his last three contests.

Seven players under the age of 20 saw action for Tacoma tonight, including three First Team players in Muse, Alfonso Ocampo-Chavez and Danny Leyva.

Defiance next travels to take on New Mexico United on Wednesday, October 16 (6:00 p.m. PT / ESPN+). The club then returns home to face Austin Bold FC on Saturday, October 19 (7:00 p.m. PT / ESPN+).
