Major League Soccer on Tuesday named Seattle Sounders midfielder Nicolás Lodeiro to the Team of the Week bench for Week 18 following his masterclass outing in the 2-0 win over Toronto FC on Saturday.
Lodeiro, who lined up in a deeper midfield spot, provided a steadying influence for a young, heavily rotated Sounders side playing on the road. The midfield maestro completed 56 pass attempts as he dictated the tempo and got all of his teammates involved. In addition to a beautiful, no-look assist to Fredy Montero on the second goal, Lodeiro posted five shot creating actions, three tackles and two interceptions as the Sounders picked up three massive points away from home.
After missing a majority of last season with injuries, Lodeiro has been excellent in the 2022 campaign. The club captain has racked up eight goals and seven assists across all competitions, leading the Sounders to the club to a historic Concacaf Champions League title. He has also been instrumental in Seattle's rise up the Western Conference standings into a playoff position after juggling CCL and regular season play in the early months of the season.
