Following the club's 1-0 win over Austin FC on Saturday night, Seattle Sounders midfielder Obed Vargas and goalkeeper Stefan Frei were named to Major League Soccer’s Team of the Matchday for Matchday 26, earning spots on the bench.
In the 63rd minute, it was Vargas who drove through Austin’s defense to find Paul Rothrock, who laid it off for Jordan Morris at the top of the box to tally the Sounders’ lone goal of the night. This marks Vargas’ 6th assist of the season.
Additionally, a crucial save from Frei in second-half stoppage time left the Sounders with a victory on the road and another notable clean sheet for the Seattle side. Frei's performance at Q2 Stadium on Saturday night put him at 109 career clean sheets, making him just one away from Kevin Hartman for second on the all-time MLS shutout list.
