Osvaldo Alonso suffers slight knee injury in Seattle Sounders' historic win

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. — The Seattle Sounders’ first-ever ticket to the MLS Cup Final came with a bit of a price on Sunday, as midfielder and captain Osvaldo Alonso is questionable for the title game in two weeks with a knee injury.

Alonso suffered what head coach Brian Schmetzer called a slight knee sprain in the second half and had to leave the Sounders’ 1-0 win over the Colorado Rapids in the 74th minute.

"A little sore," Alonso said after the game of the injury, "but we've got time."

Alonso appeared in 32 games this season for the Sounders (all starts) and had logged 349 of 360 minutes of the team’s run through the MLS Cup Playoffs before suffering the injury on Sunday.

Forward Jordan Morris, who came into Sunday’s game battling an illness, took multiple knocks during the game including a gash directly below his right knee. Morris was hobbling postgame, but it did not appear to be something that would keep him out long term.

The Sounders also played Sunday without midfielders Brad Evans (left ankle sprain) and Erik Friberg (left calf strain), who each traveled but were late scratches. There was no additional update on their status following the game.

The Sounders will either host the Montreal Impact or visit Toronto FC in the MLS Cup Final on Dec. 10. The second leg of the Eastern Conference Championship will be played on Wednesday at BMO Field in Toronto.
