When news broke Friday afternoon that Clint Dempsey will miss the Seattle Sounders’ upcoming match against the Portland Timbers while dealing with an irregular heartbeat, social media responded with an outpour of well wishes for the star forward.
A number of current and former players chimed in – Dempsey’s U.S. national team teammate Alejandro Bedoya, former Sounders teammate Steve Zakuani and ESPN analyst Brian Dunseth were among the group – but perhaps the biggest surprise came right out of the Rose City.

The Sounders and Timbers will play the final of their three regular-season games at Providence Park on Sunday (2 p.m. PT; ESPN/KIRO 97.3 FM/El Rey 1360AM).
