Sunday’s match between Seattle and Portland is the penultimate battle between Cascadia sides in the 2015 campaign. Currently, the two sides trail Vancouver on the Cascadia Cup table, but each club could vault upwards with a three-point result. Despite having a minus-three goal differential against its regional opposition, Sounders FC controls its own destiny in seizing its first Cascadia Cup since 2011.

With a victory over the Timbers on Sunday, the Rave Green would just need a draw against Vancouver at BC Place on September 19 to hoist the club’s first trophy of the 2015 campaign.

After Sounders FC won the Cup in 2011, the Timbers claimed it 2012 and Whitecaps FC has claimed victor in each of the last two seasons. The regional competition was founded in 2004 by the largest supporters groups of the three Pacific Northwest clubs: the Emerald City Supporters, Timbers Army and Vancouver Southsiders.

In all, Seattle has won the Cascadia Cup three times: 2011 in MLS and 2006-2007 in USL. The 2006 campaign saw Seattle set a Cascadia Cup-record with 14 points on a 4-2-2 record.
