RECAP: Sounders grab road point after Rapids’ second half equalizer

TS1_7203-2

The Seattle Sounders played the Colorado Rapids to a 1-1 draw on Saturday night at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. Danny Musovski provided the initial lead for the Rave Green in the final minute of the first half before Colorado’s Djordje Mihailovic found the equalizer in the 54th minute.

Colorado nearly got the early go-ahead goal off a corner kick in the 5th minute, but Rafael Navarro’s header was cleared off the line by Cristian Roldan.

Then in the 18th minute, JesĂşs Ferreira was presented an opportunity in front of goal after a Colorado clearance found the feet of the forward, but his ensuing shot went over the bar.

Cole Bassett almost scored for the Rapids in the 23rd minute after taking the ball away from Yeimar for a breakaway, but his shot hit the left post.

11 minutes later, a through ball from Obed Vargas found Paul Rothrock on the run and in front of goal. Rothrock’s shot attempt left goalkeeper Nico Hansen fumbling the ball, providing an opportunity for Musovski to get the follow-up, but it went out for a goal kick.

Musovski’s goal scoring moment came nine minutes later when Ferreira found an early ball behind to Kalani Kossa-Rienzi on the right flank, who then drove the ball to the forward for him to finish one-time from point blank range.

Less than 10 minutes into the second half, after Oliver Larraz drew a foul at the top of the box for Colorado, Mihailovic collected the equalizer for the home side with a driven free kick into the left corner of the net.

Albert Rusnák came close to scoring the game winner in the 81st minute with a volley in the box, but he rocketed it past the near post.

Colorado thought they closed out the match with a win after Navarro’s header attempt glanced off the post and into the back of the net in the 85th minute, but the referee called the goal back for the forward’s foul against Yeimar.

The Sounders will return to action on May 3 when they host St. Louis CITY SC at Lumen Field (7:30 p.m. PT; Watch on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV)
