S2 RECAP: David Olsen wins it late for Sounders FC 2

TUKWILA, Wash. - A brace from first-teamer Zach Mathers and a late winner from David Olsen saw Seattle Sounders FC 2 extend their home unbeaten streak to four games with a wild 3-2 win over OKC Energy FC at Starfire Stadium.

Sounders FC 2 started off on the front foot with Mathers coming up from midfield to latch onto a cross that was cleared to the top of the box. Mathers took one touch and fired a shot past Cody Laurendi to send the Sounders in front.

Seattle would gain an advantage on the pitch when Energy FC midfielder Miguel Gonzalez was shown a straight red card for a high arm on midfielder Ray Saari.

Having scored the game-winner in the Sounders’ Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup win at Starfire last week against the Portland Timbers, Mathers continued his hot run of form and doubled Seattle’s advantage in the 38th minute.

Irvin Parra was tripped up in the box and Mathers stepped up to slam home a penalty kick giving Sounders FC 2 a 2-0 advantage heading into halftime.

In the second half, Oklahoma City would come out on the front foot with forward Alex Dixon nearly pulling one back in the 51st minute with a shot off the post.

Dixon found a goal in the 70th minute as he tapped home a wonderful cross from Danish midfielder Phillip Rasmussen.

Energy FC pulled level in the 86th minute as former Sounder Andy Craven drew a PK in the box via handball before finishing from the spot past Tyler Miller.

Having spurned a breakaway opportunity earlier in the match, Olsen won it for Ezra Hendrickson’s side. A flowing move from goalkeeper all the way to forward saw Olsen sent in on goal and this time he made no mistake slotting one past Laurendi to give S2 all three points.

S2 moves from ninth all the way to third in the Western Conference standings. S2 returns to action Saturday night at Orange County SC in southern California.
