The Seattle Sounders are taking on 2017 MLS expansion side Atlanta United in their second match of the Carolina Challenge Cup in Charleston, S.C., on Wednesday (4:30 p.m. PT; SoundersFC.com).

NOTES:


- Clint Dempsey does not start on Wednesday after starting the previous three preseason matches. He went 60 minutes in the Sounders’ 1-1 draw with the Charleston Battery on Saturday. His midfield line of Nicolas Lodeiro and Alvaro Fernandez each begin on the bench as well.


- Quinton Griffith, 24, is a guest right back starting for the Sounders. He is a member of the Charleston Battery and has 34 caps for the Antigua and Barbados national team.


- Bryan Meredith makes his first start of the preseason after Tyler Miller got the nod in the first three matches.


- Trialist Darrius Barnes starts for the second straight match. He will begin at center back on Wednesday after playing right back last Saturday.


- Midfielder Harry Shipp returns to the lineup as expected after missing a couple weeks while recovering from an ankle injury.


- Academy players Jake Morris and David Olsen each make their first start this preseason.
