Seattle Sounders captain Brad Evans says "rich history" deepens Seattle-Portland rivalry

Seattle Sounders captain Brad Evans knows the Cascadia rivalry as well as anyone. With more than a decade of MLS experience and eight seasons in the Pacific Northwest, Evans has led his team into battle against the Portland Timbers more times than he cares to count.

On Sunday he'll do it again, in the first meeting between the teams since the Timbers clinched the MLS Cup in 2015 (12 p.m. PT; FOX; KIRO Radio 97.3 FM, El Rey 1360AM).

"The northwest is the pivotal market right now when you talk about rivalries and crowds," Evans said on The Herd with Colin Cowherd on Thursday morning, just hours after his team earned a 5-0 win over the Western Conference-leading FC Dallas

"What makes it so special is the proximity of the teams."

Evans wrapped up the interview fielding a few questions about his national team career, which the 31-year-old addressed candidly.

"My tenure with the national team is probably over at this point, which is okay," he said.  "I had a great run. Of every game I played with the national team, I only lost one or two games, which is awesome. In saying that, Jurgen [Klinsmann] was a big part of that. He trusted in me and he believed in me."
