Seattle Sounders climb to top spot in weekly Power Rankings for ESPN, MLSsoccer.com

Sounders FC just keeps on climbing.

Following an exciting 3-0 win over the LA Galaxy at Lumen Field on Sunday, which saw Raúl Ruidíaz and Brad Smith make the MLS Team of the Week, the Rave Green have ascended to the top spot in the Weekly Power Rankings for ESPN.com and MLSsoccer.com.

Raúl Ruidíaz's brace powered Seattle past the previously unbeaten Galaxy in a dominant 3-0 win,” wrote ESPN.com’s Kyle Bonagura. “The result puts Seattle atop the Western Conference standings with seven points, tied with NYCFC for the most in MLS.”

The league’s editorial team is equally high on the Sounders FC’s current run of form.

“Congrats to Grant Stephens, a Timbers fan from Gresham, Oregon,” quipped MLSsoccer.com’s J. Sam Jones. “Grant found a monkey’s paw this offseason and, in hopes Seattle would take a break from normal procedure, wished for the Sounders to not become the best team in MLS after the summer transfer window. Way to go, Grant. Way to go.”

Head Coach Brian Schmetzer and his staff will now turn their sights toward the first Cascadia rivalry match of the season as they visit the Portland Timbers (12:00 p.m. PT; ABC, 950 KJR AM, El Rey 1360 AM).
