Seattle Sounders forward Jordan Morris sends message to fans following ACL tear

Jordan Morris vs Santa Tecla Feb 22

On Monday afternoon, Jordan Morris tweeted a photo and an impactful message for the Seattle Sounders community. It was his first public statement since tearing his ACL in a 2-1 loss at Santa Tecla FC last Thursday in El Salvador. On Monday morning, it was confirmed that he will be ruled out for the duration of the 2018 season.

Morris, 23, has been a fan favorite since his rookie campaign in 2016. A Seattle local and former Sounders Academy standout, Morris’ father, Dr. Michael Morris, is the club’s physician. As a professional playing for his hometown team, Morris’ commitment and civic pride is unparalleled. He has been named the club’s Humanitarian of the Year in each of the past two seasons.

“Obviously, it’s a blow to a young player,” Head Coach Brian Schmetzer said. “Jordan has a ton of talent, a bright future ahead of him. It’s certainly a setback, but it’s not a setback he can’t overcome. I have all the confidence in Jordan that he is going to pull through this and be a significant part of the team.”

Morris, who battled a bad ankle and a hamstring strain last season, will now face the worst injury of his career.

"He's been in a better mood,” Sounders midfielder Cristian Roldan said. “I think he realized that being positive is the only way he can be right now. I want to help him in any way I can. I have reassured him of that. It's devastating, for sure, but Jordan is more than capable of coming back from this."

Each step of the way, Morris will continue to be the top supporter for his teammates.
