PASSING MACHINE: Sounders captain Nicolás Lodeiro has returned from his injury-riddled 2021 in a massive way. The Uruguayan has eight goals and seven assists in all competitions so far this season and has been at or near the top of the league in almost every statistical passing category. He’s first in MLS in both passes completed and touches per 90 minutes.

DEFENSIVE DOMINANCE: After not earning a clean sheet in their first nine matches in MLS play this season, the Sounders have shut out four of their last eight opponents and have conceded just five total goals in that span (0.63 goals per game).

SCORING BY COMMITTEE: The Timbers are one of only two teams in MLS (New York City FC) who have six players with at least three goals scored this year. Jaroslaw Niezgoda leads Portland with six goals.

GOALS GIVETH AND TAKETH: Portland is third in the Western Conference in both goals scored (29) and goals allowed (29).

STALEMATE: The Timbers have drawn eight of their 19 matches so far this season. Only the Philadelphia Union (nine) have split the points more in MLS.
