PREVIOUS MEETING: The Sounders and Whitecaps drew 1-1 on Decision Day last year at BC Place in Vancouver. Fredy Montero opened the scoring for the Sounders on an eighth minute penalty before Ryan Gauld equalized in the 20th minute for the hosts.

HOME COOKING: Tuesday’s match, which was originally scheduled for April 30 but moved to accommodate the Sounders’ advancement in the Concacaf Champions League, is the second of five consecutive home matches for Seattle. The Sounders opened their homestand with a 2-1 win over Charlotte FC on May 29. After Vancouver, the Sounders will welcome LAFC, Sporting Kansas City and CF Montréal to Lumen Field.
MISSING INTERNATIONALS: The Sounders could be missing several key cogs on Tuesday, as Cristian Roldan and Jordan Morris (United States), Albert Rusnák (Slovakia), Xavier Arreaga (Ecuador) and Nouhou (Cameroon) have all been on international duty. The Whitecaps could be without Lucas Cavallini (Canada), Javain Brown (Jamaica) and Andrés Cubas (Paraguay).
SEATTLE DOMINANCE: The Sounders are unbeaten in their last 14 matches (9-0-5) against their Cascadia rivals, including playoffs, dating back to April 2017. The streak is Vancouver’s longest without a win against any MLS team.
RUIDÍAZ WRECKING BALL: Seattle’s Designated Player forward Raúl Ruidíaz has six goals in seven career matches against the Whitecaps. Since his MLS debut in 2018, only Real Salt Lake’s Damir Kreilach has scored as many goals against Vancouver.
VANCOUVER TURNAROUND: After sitting in the MLS basement for much of the early part of the season with one win in their first eight matches (1-6-1), the Whitecaps have won four of their last six league games and an additional two Canadian Championship matches. Vancouver, which won at Sporting Kansas City in its last road match, hasn’t won consecutive away games in a single season since 2018.
LATE MAGIC: The Whitecaps have three 90th-minute-or-later winning goals this season, including a 93rd-minute penalty in their last match against RSL, a 2-1 win at BC Place. Vancouver had two 90th-minute-or-later winning goals in the last six seasons combined.
PLAYER TO WATCH: Scottish midfielder Gauld has been influential as a Designated Player for Vancouver since signing last summer. He has two goals and two assists in 677 minutes so far this season.
