FIVE DECADES OF HISTORY: Both the Sounders and Whitecaps are celebrating their 50th Anniversary seasons in 2024. The storied Pacific Northwest rivalry dates back to the 1974 season in the North American Soccer League. Seattle leads the all-time series with a record of 73-52-26.
CASCADIA CUP: Saturday will be the Sounders’ first Cascadia Cup match of the season as they take on the defending champion Whitecaps. This will be Vancouver’s second match of the year after defeating Portland 3-2 at BC Place on March 30.
BACK-TO-BACK CLEAN SHEETS: Goalkeeper Stefan Frei and the Sounders defense have posted back-to-back shutouts following their scoreless draw on the road at FC Dallas last weekend. Frei, who just recorded his 300th regular-season appearance to extend his all-time club lead, now has 107 career clean sheets, just five behind MLS great Kevin Hartman for second in league history.
ATTACK FIRING: The Whitecaps have been one the most free-flowing attacking teams in MLS through the early stages of the season. Their 15 goals scored is fourth in the league and first among teams who have only played seven matches.
SPREADING THE WEALTH: Of those 15 goals scored, Vancouver has had nine different goalscorers. Brian White and key offseason pickup Fafà Picault lead the way with three goals apiece.
ROAD VENTURE: After wrapping up a four-match homestand last week, the ‘Caps are headed on the road for five of their next six contests, including another trip to Lumen Field less than a month later on May 18.
