The weekly awards just keep rolling in for Sounders FC.
Following a pair of impressive wins over the San Jose Earthquakes on the road and LAFC at home, defenders Xavier Arreaga and Alex Roldan, midfielder Cristian Roldan, and Head Coach Brian Schmetzer have been named to the MLS Week 5 Team of the Week.
The four honorees from the Rave Green could have made the TOTW on the back of their performances against LAFC alone. Arreaga scored his first MLS goal, Alex Roldan served up a beautiful assist, Cristian Roldan pulled the strings in midfield and Schmetzer made tactical adjustments that tipped control to Seattle in the second half.
Add in a clean sheet on the road in San Jose, Cristian Roldan scoring a left-footed golazo, Alex Roldan putting in a heroic shift in goal and Schmetzer guiding his team through an extremely difficult start to the season, and the only surprise is that more Sounders didn’t make the list.
After an intense three-game week, Sounders FC will enjoy a bit of rest before playing host to Atlanta United (1:30 p.m. PT; FOX, 950 KJR AM, El Rey 1360 AM | TICKETS) on Sunday at Lumen Field.
