Sounders FC 2 earns a point in 1-1 draw with Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC at Starfire Stadium

Wingo

TUKWILA, WASH. - Midfielder Henry Wingo scored a goal in the first half, as Sounders FC 2 (9-15-4, 31 points) drew Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC (9-11-8, 35 points) 1-1 at Starfire Stadium on Saturday evening. Now tied for 11th place in the Western Conference, S2 hosts Phoenix Rising on Wednesday in the final home match of the 2017 campaign (7:30 p.m. PT / Live-streamed on SoundersFC.com).

In the 21st minute, Wingo's goal gave S2 the 1-0 advantage. On a counterattack, Wingo received the ball in empty space on the left flank and drove toward the net. He managed to stab a shot from close range that went through goalkeeper Moise Pouaty's legs for his second goal of the USL campaign.

Switchbacks FC equalized in the 45th minute when Josh Suggs sent a cross from the top of the area for Jack Jones, who took one touch and delivered a high-bouncing shot into the upper left corner of the net.

In the second half, S2 heavily pushed to take the lead. Forward Seyi Adekoya nearly made the score 2-1 in the 74th minute, but his shot sailed just inches above the crossbar. A few minutes later, the Homegrown Player took another attempt - this time Adekoya's shot barely drifted wide. In the final five minutes, substitute winger David Olsen had two shots, while midfielder Charles Renken added another, but the Rave Green were unable to convert a chance.

Four points below the postseason cutoff line, Ezra Hendrickson's side wraps up its three-match homestand against Phoenix Rising on Wednesday evening. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. PT at Starfire Stadium.
