Sounders FC 2 falls 2-1 to Orange County at Starfire Stadium

S2 David Olsen

TUKWILA, WASH. â€“ Despite a first-half goal by David Olsen, Seattle Sounders FC 2 came up short in a 2-1 loss to Orange County SC on Sunday afternoon at Starfire Stadium. It was the first home match in nearly a month for the Rave Green.

Orange County opened the scoring in the 16th minute on a goal by Wulito Fernandes. From the top of the area, Gustavo Villalobos sent a pass to his left, finding Fernandes open with space. The forward delivered a shot that tucked inside Bryan Meredith’s far post.

Olsen tied the score at one apiece off a throw-in by forward Irvin Parra. In the 30th minute, Parra launched a throw-in from the right side of the pitch to directly in front of the goal, where Olsen rose for the scoring header. Olsen now ranks third on the club with four goals this season. A minute later, Parra nearly took the lead when his shot barely rolled wide.

In the 37th minute, Orange County went ahead 2-1. Fernandes drove a hard pass into the ground in front of the goal, where a poaching Monday Etim tapped the bouncing ball into the left side of the net.

S2 midfielder Charles Renken’s shot in the 69th minute struck the post and ricocheted into Charlie Lyon’s arms while the goalkeeper was off the line. It was the closest S2 would come to earning the equalizer, as Orange County left Starfire Stadium with three points.

Of note, Lyon, who played for Sounders FC the previous two seasons, received his MLS Cup ring from Sounders FC Club Director of Goalkeeping Tom Dutra prior to the match.

S2 returns to action on Thursday at home versus Swope Park Rangers. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. PT.
