SEATTLE, WASH. – Seattle Sounders FC today announced that more than 61,000 tickets have been sold for the club’s 2022 Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League Final match vs. Pumas UNAM, being played on Wednesday, May 4 (7:00 p.m. PT / FS1, TUDN, 93.3 KJR FM, El Rey 1360 AM). With this announcement, the club is set to break the standalone attendance record for a Concacaf Champions League Final match, surpassing the 61,004 fans that watched Montreal take on Club América at the Olympic Stadium in 2015.

Limited inventory in the Lumen Field upper bowl remains, and fans wishing to attend are urged to act quickly to secure their tickets for this historic day. Sounders FC is playing in the club’s first continental championship, with the Concacaf Champions League trophy and a spot in the FIFA Club World Cup on the line on May 4. Tickets are available exclusively online via SoundersFC.com/Tickets.

“I am never surprised by our fans and their love of the game and the Sounders, but nevertheless they deserve real credit for breaking the Champions League Final attendance record days in advance of Wednesday’s kickoff,” said Sounders FC Owner & President of Business Operations Peter Tomozawa. “We know that this upcoming game is historic, and we want to create a fortress for our team inside Lumen Field. This is the only major trophy missing from our club’s collection, and we are calling on every Sounders fan in the region to be there and support the team. If you don’t already have your tickets, please act fast before they’re gone. We can’t wait to see you all on Wednesday night, let’s make history!”

Sounders FC played to a dramatic 2-2 draw against Pumas on Wednesday in the first leg of the series in Mexico City. Seattle midfielder Nicolás Lodeiro scored the latest goal in club history to level the match in the 99th minute. The Rave Green now look to raise the trophy in front of a swelling home crowd of over 61,000 fans on Wednesday night. Seattle is aiming to make history, as no MLS team has ever won a SCCL title, with only five MLS teams ever making the championship round.

With more than 61,000 tickets sold for May 4, Seattle is assured of setting a new single-match attendance record in Champions League play. 61,004 watched the second leg of the 2014-2015 Champions League Final between Montreal and Club América. Furthermore, Wednesday’s match has a chance to be the largest crowd ever on-hand in SCCL history, with 66,208 being the number to beat. That mark was set in the 2014-2015 Semifinal second leg between Club América and Herediano at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City. Wednesday is already on track to become the most attended match of the 2022 Champions League tournament, breaking the mark of 56,094 set during the second leg of the Semifinals between Cruz Azul and Pumas, also at Estadio Azteca.

The last time a Sounders FC home match surpassed an attendance of 60,000 was the 2019 MLS Cup Final, when 69,274 fans were on-hand to see the Rave Green defeat Toronto FC 3-1 in the highest-attended soccer match in the history of Washington State. The club has surpassed the 60,000 mark on eight total occasions at Lumen Field, with Sounders FC playing to an unbeaten 7-0-1 record.

Fans attending the match are encouraged to arrive early to this historic contest, with gates opening at 5:00 p.m. PT, 30 minutes earlier than usual for home games. Those looking to take in all of the pre-match ceremonies should arrive no later than 6:00 p.m. PT, with travel times expected to be heavily increased due to the mid-week nature of the match, as well as one of the largest crowds in Seattle soccer history.

In addition to adding another trophy to the team’s collection, the winner of the tournament goes on to represent the region as the top club side from North America, Central America and the Caribbean at the 2022 FIFA Club World Cup.
