The third edition of Sounders FC Classics, a new weekly series in which we re-air some of the best matches in club history, is almost here (7:00 p.m. PT; JOEtv, SoundersFC.com, the Sounders FC App and 950 KJR AM)!
This week we have the 1-0 victory over the club’s Cascadia rivals, the Portland timbers, which featured the home debut of new signing Clint Dempsey. Playing in front of a packed crowd of 68,000 supporters, Deuce and the Sounders collected a 1-0 victory over their neighbors to the South, courtesy of an Eddie Johnson goal in the 60th minute.
Portland attacked Seattle straight out of the gates, with DeAndre Yedlin and Michael Gspurning turning away gilt-edged chances inside the first 20 minutes. Although he didn’t score in his inaugural match in front of the Sounders’ boisterous supporters, Dempsey did supply his typical flair and creativity in the final third.
