Sounders FC could face LA Galaxy in Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinals

Sounders FC could face LA Galaxy in Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinals -

Sounders FC will learn on Wednesday evening who their foe in the Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinals will be, and it could be one of their biggest rivals in Major League Soccer or the biggest team in Mexico.

The Sounders will more than likely finish eighth out of eight group winners during the group stage, meaning the team will face the top seed when the tournament resumes in February 2016. Mexican powerhouse Club America currently holds the top spot after winning Group E, but the LA Galaxy could swoop into the top spot with a win in their final game in Group D on Wednesday night.

The Galaxy play on the road at Guatemalan side Comunicaciones, but they’re not expected to carry their top lineup into the game. The Galaxy’s web site reported on Tuesday that head coach Bruce Arena did not make the trip and that the team will be led by associate head coach Dave Sarachan, but it’s not clear which players will take the field in Guatemala ahead of the team’s crucial MLS regular season finale on Sunday.

The Galaxy and Sounders have never played each other in SCCL and the Sounders have never played a fellow MLS team in the quarterfinals. The Sounders have also never played Club America in any competition.

There is also a chance the Sounders could face Mexican side Tigres or, if the Sounders finish with the seventh seed based on Wednesday's Tigres-Herediano result, D.C United in the quarterfinals.
