CONCACAF Champions League

Sounders FC to host Liga MX side Club America in CONCACAF quarterfinals on Feb. 23

Sounders FC will host Liga MX side Club America in the first leg of the Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League Quarterfinals in Seattle on Tuesday, Feb. 23, the Sounders’ first competitive game at CenturyLink Field in 2016.

Kick off is slated for 7 p.m. PT and the match will be telecast on FS1 and Univision. Tickets for the match will be available on Thursday, Dec. 3 at 10 a.m. PT. The first leg of the match will be included in 2016 Season Ticket Member packages.

The Sounders are one of four teams from Major League Soccer that advanced from the group stage earlier this year, and this will be their third appearance in the SCCL quarterfinals in franchise history. D.C. United, Real Salt Lake and the LA Galaxy are also still alive in the tournament.

After hosting the first leg in Seattle, the Sounders will travel for the second leg to Estadio Azteca on March 2, the franchise’s first-ever appearance in Mexico City’s famed stadium.

This is the first-ever meeting between the Sounders and Club America, the defending SCCL champions and Mexico’s most popular club team. The Sounders have faced Liga MX clubs in the SCCL quarterfinals twice before – they lost to Santos Laguna in 2012 and defeated Tigres in 2013, becoming the first MLS team to beat a Liga MX team in the quarterfinals.

Club America’s current squad boasts a number of players who also feature for the Mexican national team, including striker Oribe Peralta and defender Paul Aguilar, who scored the dramatic game-winning goal in Mexico's 3-2 win over the United States in the CONCACAF Cup in October.

The club is also home to Ventura Alvarado, an Arizona-born defender who has 13 caps for the USMNT.

The winner of the Sounders - Club America quarterfinal seires will face the winner of the Santos Laguna - LA Galaxy quarterfinal in the semifinals.
