Sounders FC meets the New York Red Bulls on Saturday in the only match of the year between the two teams.
Here are three matchups to watch for in the East-West clash.
THIERRY HENRY VS. DEANDRE YEDLIN
Sounders FC’s dynamic right back will soon go to the Premier League to play for Tottenham Hotspur. Henry, meanwhile, accomplished just about everything in England’s top league in his years with Arsenal, so the opportunity to play against him is one that could be beneficial to Yedlin as he continues his rise to stardom. Henry is fourth in MLS with 12 assists and has nine goals as well, giving him 50 goals and 40 assists in 117 matches since signing with New York in 2010.
RESTED VS. ROAD-TESTED
Both Seattle and New York played mid-week matches, however they had much different approaches to those games that could shape their lineups on Saturday. Seattle put its best foot forward on Tuesday to top the Philadelphia Union in the U.S. Open Cup championship, winning 3-1 in extra time. New York, meanwhile, used a mostly reserve lineup in a CONCACAF Champions League group stage match in Montreal on Wednesday, falling 1-0 to the Impact.
LUIS ROBLES VS. SEATTLE’S STRIKERS
Robles is second in MLS with 94 saves this season, facing more shots than all but one keeper in the league. Meanwhile, Seattle has attempted more shots than all but the LA Galaxy, scoring 51 goals in 27 matches. It sets up to be an explosive offensive night for Seattle.
