The Sounders will kick off the 2017 season on Saturday, March 4 against the Houston Dynamo at BBVA Compass Stadium.
In the same match that Osvaldo Alonso unloaded a long-range effort to highlight the Sounders’ 4-2 win, Jordan Morris added his own theatrics.
A clearance from the Sounders’ end found Morris 1-on-1 with LA defender Daniel Steres just over the midfield line in Galaxy territory. Morris made a clever touch with his left foot to poke the ball past Steres and turn it into a foot race that Morris was never going to lose.
Morris blew past Steres before firing a shot to the top corner of the far post with the outside of his right foot to give the Sounders a 2-1 lead in the 63rd minute. The moment came seemingly out of nowhere, as Morris flashed the big play and home-run ability for which he has been so highly touted.
Morris’ breakaway effort was the first of two goals on the afternoon, good for his first career MLS brace.
