The future is bright for the Seattle Sounders.
One day after 16-year-old Homegrown Player Obed Vargas put in a stellar performance in Seattle's 3-0 win against Liga MX powerhouse Club León in Leg One of the Concacaf Champions League Quarterfinals, Sounders Academy standouts Jayson Castillo and Stuart Hawkins have been called up to the United States U-17 Men's National Team for a pair of Friendlies against Argentina (March 15) and Uruguay (March 18) in Buenos Aires.
Born in 2006, Castillo and Hawkins were both previously called up to the U-17 MNT for a domestic camp at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., back in January. Castillo joined the Rave Green youth system from Three Rivers Soccer Club, while Hawkins came to the Sounders via Washington Premier FC.
Next week's trip, which includes a pair of friendlies against two of the top player development powerhouses in South America, marks the third overall camp for this age group as they build toward the 2023 U-17 World Cup in Peru. With two inclusions on the roster, the Sounders are tied with the Philadelphia Union and LA Galaxy as the the club with the third-most players called up for the trip.
