UNFINISHED: Jordan Morris battles back from adversity, ready to rise in the playoffs

Jordan Morris is no stranger to facing adversity.

In the 2025 season alone, the longtime Sounders forward dealt with three injuries that left him sidelined for more than 20 matches. His most recent injury even required surgery after dealing with a shoulder AC joint separation following a collision during a July match against the San Jose Earthquakes.

“This has been maybe my toughest year, just with so many kinds of ins and outs, coming back into the team and then getting another injury and dealing with an upper body injury that I've never dealt with before,” said Morris. “But I think it's just part of the game, and after the initial shock of the injury, you can't feel bad for yourself, you just have to push through.”

Players that come in and out of the lineup due to injury often struggle make an impact. But the Mercer Island Magician has made the most of his limited opportunities in 2025.

The Sounders’ quest continues. After making history with every major trophy, Seattle is back for more. The 2025 MLS Cup Playoffs kick off October 27 as the Sounders face Minnesota United at Allianz Field. Head to the Playoff Hub to follow the action — tickets, schedules, watch parties, and team updates await.

Although Morris has only played 752 minutes in the regular season, he’s tallied five goals and two assists for the Rave Green. His most recent goal came on Decision Day, paving the way toward a road win for his team. In the 61st minute, Morris found the back of the net with a redirected header from an Albert Rusnák set piece, marking his first goal upon his return from shoulder surgery and his 100th overall for club and country (89 with Sounders, 11 with USMNT).

Persevering through hardships also comes with knowing how to manage it. What allows Morris to come back at a high level is his approach and preparation in the lead up of returning to play.

“During rehabs, [setting goals] keep me focused and keep me hungry to come out and to be back with the group,” said Morris.

He also credits his teammates and Sounders staff for making it a seamless transition.

“I think just being part of this group for so long, when I get back on the field, it feels normal,” said Morris. “It feels like you're out there with your good friends, because of the group that we have, and they're all super helpful, getting me back to where I was before the injury.”

While Morris has been influential in his limited minutes this year, but he still isn’t satisfied. With postseason competition around the corner – the team faces Minnesota United in the first match of Round One on Oct. 27 – the Designated Player is determined to utilize his playoff experience and strong work ethic to support his team toward MLS glory.

“Playoffs are almost like a new season. Even though I haven't been part of the group for most of this year on the field, I think it's a fresh start for everyone. Everyone kind of starts at that level playing field trying to win a trophy.”

“It's about being selfless in these games,” he continued. “So all the little extra things, the defensive work, fighting for balls, things like that, all that stuff adds up in these playoff runs.”

It is clear: Morris’ 2025 story is unfinished, and he and the Sounders squad are more than ready to contend for a third MLS Cup title.

“Playoffs are the best part of the season,” said Morris. “[And] I'm excited to be back and a part of it.”
