Victor Rodriguez scores first MLS goal in 3-0 win over Vancouver Whitecaps

At training this week, Head Coach Brian Schmetzer told media that the team "needs just one little spark" to break out of an offensive slump that has seen the Rave Green score just three goals over five matches entering Wednesday's rivalry match against Vancouver Whitecaps FC at CenturyLink Field. The little spark, literally, came in the form of 5-foot-7-inch midfielder Victor Rodriguez, who opened his MLS goal-scoring account in the 17th minute in Seattle's 3-0 win. The victory puts Seattle just one point shy of first-place Vancouver on the Western Conference table, alongside Sporting KC and the Portland Timbers.

Rodriguez received the ball at the top of the 18-yard-box before ripping a low shot into the bottom right corner of the net. The 28-year-old Spaniard now has one goal in six MLS appearances since signing with Seattle on August 2. Prior to joining MLS, Rodriguez played for Sporting Gijón, Getafe CF, Elche CF, Real Zaragoza and CF Badalona.

The goal marked the only goal of the first half, though, due to Stefan Frei's world-class stop on Fredy Montero.
