WIRED: Seattle Homegrown Jordan Morris has supercharged the Sounders attack

Sounders forward Jordan Morris has never had issues finding the back of the net, and in 2020, he continued that success with 10 goals over 22 appearances, good for 2nd on the squad behind Raúl Ruidíaz’s 12.

From his two-goal performance as a substitute versus Chicago back on March 1 in front of a packed stadium to another brace on September 30th, all the way to his final regular-season strike on Decision Day, Morris is finding ways to score, even as he’s adjusted to his new home on the wing. This season, Morris matched his goal total from 2019 (10) despite making four fewer appearances.

Suffice it to say, Morris knows how to find the back of the net.

But this season marked a new milestone: a career-high eight assists. His personal best was previously seven assists back in 2019 – which, again, he accumulated over four additional appearances.

Morris’ eight assists are also 2nd on the team, only trailing behind Nicolás Lodeiro (10), the Sounders’ No. 10. Lodeiro is also the franchise-leader in assists with 58, so coming in 2nd in this category is no small feat.

Morris’s speed on the wing and his ability to burn opposing defenders is now paying off not just in relation to his personal scoring tally, but his ability to distribute and create to his teammates. Those are massive weapons Morris has added to his arsenal, making him all the more dangerous in attack.

Looking ahead to the Sounders' Audi MLS Cup Playoff match vs LAFC on November 24 (7:30 p.m. PT; ESPN, 950 KJR AM, El Rey 1360 AM), that brace back on September 30th came against the Black & Gold. For the Sounders to progress to the Western Conference Semifinals, they’ll need the supercharged offensive spark Morris has provided this season.
