Major League Soccer on Monday named Seattle Sounders defender Xavier Arreaga to the Team of the Week for Week 3 after the center back put in a match-winning performance against the LA Galaxy over the weekend.
On the defensive side of the ball, Arreaga posted one tackle, two interceptions and one block in Seattle's 3-2 win over a high-flying Galaxy side that entered the match with two wins from their first two matches of the year. A constant threat on attacking set pieces, Arreaga struck the post with a headed effort in the 62nd minute. Ten minutes later, the Ecuadorian defender found the game-winning goal from another set-piece routine, confidently dispatching Alex Roldan's inch-perfect cross to put the Rave Green up 3-2. With the Sounders protecting a lead, Arreaga produced several defensive stops down the stretch to see out the win, giving the hosts their first three points of the 2022 MLS regular season.
Arreaga and the Sounders return to action on Thursday as they travel to Mexico to take on Club León (5:30 p.m. PT; FS1, TUDN, iHeart Radio, El Rey 1360AM) in Leg Two of the Concacaf Champions League Quarterfinals. Seattle enters the fixture with a 3-0 lead after a comprehensive victory in the first leg.
